About Us
Communication, culture, and technology are what drives human life. Society impacts technology and technology impacts society. This website was put together as a project for the Communications, Culture & Technology (CCT) program at Georgetown University.

Our Team
This website was put together by Hanyan Hu, Jalyn Marks, Chutong Wang, and Yuxuan Xie. We are a members of the Spring 2021 "Fundamentals of Technology" class with Professor J.R. Osborn. Thank you for visiting our site!

This is Hanyan Hu from Beijing, China, who enjoys reading, writing, video games, and music. Graduating from Renmin University of China with a major in communication, she became a CCT student at GU in 2020. Her academic interests focus on game research and culture analysis.

In this project, Hanyan makes an effort to explain the propaganda uses of celluloid films. She wants to combine the technical parts together under a social topic, and come up with some deep considerations about the film's role in persuading and influencing the audience secretly.

Jalyn Marks is pursuing her Master's degree Communications, Culture & Technology, with a certificate in Disability Studies. She also works as a Graduate Research Assistant with the Georgetown University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities.

Jalyn was interested in studying the sound component of celluloid film because of the noticeable transition from text (silent films) to speech (talkies) to today's more accessible combination of text and speech in the use of subtitles and transcripts for people with disabilities and general audiences who want more options from their media.

Chutong Wang was a graphic designer and a marketing assistant before she came to Georgetown University. She also have a Bachelor‘s degree in International Studies from University of Nottingham.
Chutong is interested in media operation, media management, and marketing. She hopes to get a better understanding of the work field she is interested in through CCT program. In her spare time, she likes to do many things: she cares about wildlife conservation; She loves reading, making crafts, painting, traveling and so on, and keeps an open mind and positive attitude towards the world.

Graduated from Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) in 2020 with a bachelor degree of Humanity and Science, Yuxuan Xie is currently pursuing her master's degree in CCT program Georgetown University, with a specific direction of Video Technology. She's a blogger and influencer. She's interested in video editing, film analysis and journalism.

In this celluloid film project, she's responsible for analysis the mechanisms of the film projectors. The cooperation of each elements, (e.g. shuttle, loops, photo sensor) in a projector is so harmonious and efficient. To review more, please check out the technical components.

Design Justification
In the design of this site, we used beige and golden brown as the main colors, and black and white as sub colors. Because these two colors have a very retro tone, such as beige old paper pages, brown wooden objects, and so on, are very suitable for the era when celluloid film was born. Also, brown is also the color of a lot of celluloid film, which is very consistent with our theme. In terms of font choice, the title on the first page of the site uses heavy capital letters, similar to the title on some movie posters. As for the body paragraphs, we have adopted a clear and simple sans serif font, which is easy to read and also makes the typography look cleaner. In the picture selection, we try to choose the gray, black and brown tone of the picture, in order to make the whole page color looks more harmonious.
We want the whole site to give people feelings of gentle, warm, elegant, and full of memories of the old time. Hope you enjoy our website.
